Quality Manager - Ellesmere Port

William Sinclair Horticulture is a major manufacturer of horticultural products for both retail and professional horticulture and is wishing to recruit a quality manager for its new site at Ellesmere Port.

The successful candidate will be expected to set up a quality management system based on the draft ISO 9001 - 2015 standard and an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. The responsibilities will also include ensuring that the site conforms to standards set down by customers and trade associations as well as ensuring that the company is conforming to its corporate social responsibility policy.

The candidate should be either qualified in a quality assurance, technical or science discipline to HNC level or degree standard and have experience of working in a similar role in manufacturing, preferably with exposure to the supply of consumer goods.

The aim for Ellesmere Port is to have  team of multi-tasking technologists and the work will be varied rather than routine.

The salary will be dependent on experience and reflect how much training would be required to be effective in the role.

Premium Operative x 2 - Ellesmere Port

Job Purpose

Premium operatives are responsible for supporting and providing cover for team leaders by providing knowledge, experience, motivation, support and advice. They will follow high standards of health and safety and housekeeping, ensuring their team does the same. They will contribute and share ideas on how to improve quality and efficiency of production. They will be hands-on and lead by example. They will encourage team effort and supportive attitudes within their team. They will also support the other production teams and team leaders in ensuring a collaborative and cooperative culture within the entire organisation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead production team in manufacturing highest quality products on time, within budget and in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Operate process equipment and systems in accordance with operative procedures to maximise production.
  • Ensure production, distribution and quality targets are met.
  • Ensure there is complete commitment to continuous improvement within the team.
  • Carry out first line maintenance activities and basic problem solving.
  • Report promptly any breakdowns to the production manager and maintenance team.
  • Ensure comprehensive records and logs are maintained.
  • Ensure effective handover at the change of shift.
  • Maintain effective communication with all colleagues at all levels.
  • Adopt a flexible working attitude to provide support across all departments to ensure team success.
  • Support and improve team performance by sharing knowledge and best practise.
  • Ensure the highest standards of housekeeping are met.

Health & Safety

  • Be a health and safety champion.
  • Accountable for ensuring team work safely and follow safety instructions.
  • Ensure all H&S programs are followed by production team.
  • Responsible for safety checks on all equipment operated through out the production process,
  • Ensure that their team members are supplied with appropriate PPE.
  • Responsible for reporting concerns and unsafe working practises/conditions and near miss incidents to production manager.
  • Ensure immediate reporting of incidents.

Quality

  • Responsible for meeting quality assurance standards as set by industry programs, such as ISO.
  • Ensuring that any quality issues are reported promptly to the production manager and quality team.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a similar role in a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to lead team and be an integral part of the overall production team.
  • Must be willing to work shifts.
  • FLT licence.

Projects Team Leader - Ellesmere Port

The full time position of a projects team leader is to be created to lead the mechanical and electrical trades currently setting up the production processes at the site. Machinery includes hoppers, belts and roller conveyors, PLCs pneumatics, hydraulics motors, gearboxes, LEV, loading shovels, etc. Specific areas covered by the role will include:

Team Leading

  • Lead and motivate the growing projects team.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
  • Liaise with the project engineer and agree priority tasks, deadlines and status updates.
  • Cover for the projects engineer when he is not on site.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors on site.
  • Help with documents and record keeping.
  • Liaise with the site administrator on timekeeping and attendance of project team.
  • Liaise with suppliers as required.
  • Liaise with other Sinclair sites.
  • Ensure skills, experience and qualifications within the team are relevant and current.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Promote health and safety, ensure site rules are followed by all personnel and visitor and that all work is covered by risk assessments.
  • Genearl improvements to make the site a safer place.

The Candidate

Applicants should have:

  • Good people leadership skills, previous experience would be desirable.
  • Good organisational, written and PC skills.
  • Ambition, creativity and a proactive approach.
  • Good technical understanding of machinery, although not necessarily 'time-served'. Ideally possess a NEBOSH qualification.
  • An innovative approach and ability to identify cost savings and eliminate waste.

Appropriate training will be provided depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience and the business's needs.

Reporting to the projects engineer, the role will be based a the Ellesmere Port site (CH65 4LD) but the successful candidate can expect occasional secondments to other Sinclair sites to assist project activities.

Maintenance Electrician - Ellesmere Port

The full time position of a maintenance electrician is to be created to help set up a range of horticultural related production processes at the site. Machinery includes hoppers, belts and roller conveyors, PLCs pneumatics, hydraulics motors, gearboxes, LEV, loading shovels, etc. Specific areas covered by the role will include :

Large Scale Projects (led by the projects director)

  • Assist with detailed design and specification of large capital projects
  • Active involvement in contractor tendering and vetting process
  • Hands-on activities for machine installation, commissioning and setting up machines.

Smaller Scale Projects (led by projects engineer)

  • Similar to above but typically lower expenditure and shorter lead time.

Maintenance

  • Planned and breakdown machine maintenance
  • Root cause analysis with regards to breakdowns to prevent recurrence
  • Order spares and control stocks
  • Assist the project engineer set up planned maintenance system
  • General property maintenance

Value Engineering / Cost Saving

  • Continuous improvement activities including productivity and quality
  • Energy, water and gas saving initiatives

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Schedule periodic inspections/PAT/Fire Alarm testing, etc.
  • Risk assessments and method statements instilled in every aspect of duties
  • General improvement to make the site a safer place.

While much of the project work will be carried out by contractors, a hands-on approach will be required in all aspects of the role.

The Candidate

Applicants should have:

  • Engineering HND or a be a qualified Electrician/Fitter, 17th Edition Electrical
  • Hands-on approach, ideally with FLT, loading shovel and MEWP licences
  • Ideally possess a NEBOSH qualification
  • An innovative approach and ability to identify cost savings and eliminate waste.

Appropriate training will be provided depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience and the business's needs.

Reporting to the projects engineer, the role will be based a the Ellesmere Port site (CH65 4LD) but the successful candidate can expect occasional secondments to other Sinclair sites to assist project activities. Over time the role may expand to include supervision of a maintenance team.
