Please note these spreader settings are given as a guide only.
Required settings will vary depending on the speed one walks and the condition of the spreader. It is therefore essential spreaders are tested prior to applying lawn care products to grass. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure product is applied at the correct application rate.

Advice on how to work out spreader settings
If you can't find your spreader in the list above you can work out which setting you should use by one of the following methods:
For small areas:
Work out the area in m2 that you want to cover. Weigh out the exact amount of product recommended to treat that area and put it into the spreader hopper. Once you have covered the area, the hopper should be empty.
Work out the area in m2 that you want to cover. Weigh out the exact amount of product recommended to treat that area and put it into the spreader hopper. Once you have covered the area, the hopper should be empty.
- If it empties before you have finished, you are over dosing.
- If it still has content in when you have finished, you are under dosing.
- Increase/decrease the spreader setting accordingly.
Alternatively and in order to avoid any accidental damage to your lawn, first use the spreader to cover one square metre on a large sheet of plastic. Collect the product with a dustpan and brush and weigh it (making sure you use an old container as ferrous sulphate can cause staining).
- Repeat the excercise as necessary until you get the application rate given on the lawn product packet.
For large areas:
Fill the spreader hopper with a known weight of product. Work out the area (in m2) that this weight should cover. This can be done by dividing the known product weight by the application rate specified on the lawn treatment pack.

Measure and mark out this area on your lawn and start applying the product. Once you have covered the area, the hopper should be empty.

- If it still has content in when you have finished, you are under dosing.
- Increase/decrease the spreader setting accordingly. If you are over dosing, then turn down the spreader setting as soon as you suspect this is happening - don't wait until you have over dosed the whole lawn.
