Ponds and Water Features - March
-
By the end of the month you can safely return pumps and filters to ponds and water features.
-
Marginal plants may need dividing or re-potting into bigger baskets. Use J Arthur Bower's Aquatic Compost, which had added grit and low nutrient levels so as not to upset the balance of your pond. We recommend putting a layer of J Arthur Bower’s Washed Gravel over the pot surface – do rinse the gravel first as it will still have some dirt attached.
-
Water adds a whole new dimension to gardens. If you don’t have a water feature, now’s a good time of year to set one up. You don’t have to have an excavated pond. Garden centres stock an enormous range of different features ranging from wall fountains and pebble pools to stainless steel spheres and bronze urns. Many are self-contained and solar-powered and can be set up in a couple of hours. You can complement your chosen water feature with beautiful stones from the J Arthur Bower's Decorative Aggregates range.
-
Start feeding fish in your pond. Give them small amounts at first as leftover food will encourage the growth of algae.
