Ponds and Water Features - June

• Blanket weed is a common problem in many ponds. It’s a good idea to remove it to prevent it smothering other plants. Use a long stick, insert it into areas of blanket weed and twist it round and round – you should find this lifts a lot of the weed away. Leave the weed on the edge of the pond for a few hours to enable any pond life to escape back into the water.

• Tender floating plants such as water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) can be put into ponds now that the danger of frost is past.

• Top up pebble pools and other water features as the water will evaporate in hot weather.
