House and Conservatory Plants - January
-
Poinsettia, Moth Orchids, Azaleas and Cyclamen make popular Christmas presents, but can be hard to keep healthy. Don’t leave them standing in saucers of water as they will probably rot - more houseplants are killed by overwatering than underwatering. Cyclamen and Azaleas need a cool light place but Moth Orchids and Poinsettia need a warm position. None of them like direct sun.
-
Bring in pots of spring bulbs that were plunged outside in the autumn. Wait until the shoot is about 2.5cm high before bringing the pots into a cool place. It’s best not to bring them into the warm until the buds are about to burst.
-
Pot up Hippeastrum bulbs using a 50/50 mixture of J Arthur Bower’s Multi-Purpose Compost and Perlite.
