  • Clean your greenhouse thoroughly if you haven’t already done it. Wash pots and seed trays at the same time.

  • Continue to sow summer bedding that needs a long growing season, such as begonias, snapdragons and pelargoniums. It’s best to use a heated propagator to maintain a steady temperature. Use J Arthur Bower’s Seed & Cutting Compost or New Horizon Coir Compost for the seeds. If they need covering use J Arthur Bower’s Fine Vermiculite.

  • Pot up tiny plug plants in your favourite J Arthur Bower’s or New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost.

  • Continue to sow early vegetables in modules using J Arthur Bower’s Seed Tray Inserts and Multi-Purpose Compost of your choice. Suitable vegetables include lettuce, summer cabbage, cauliflower, radish, spinach, salad onions and peas. Aim for a temperature of 13ºC to achieve germination.

  • Prune tender perennials that have been kept dormant e.g. fuchsias, pelargoniums, salvias and argyranthemums (marguerites). Prune all main stems to three buds and sideshoots to one or two buds. Then repot into pots of your favourite J Arthur Bower’s or New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost and water in.

  • Overwintered dahlia tubers can be started into growth now. Pot them up into your favourite J Arthur Bower’s or New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost and keep moist. New dahlia tubers can be treated in the same way.

  • Repot autumn-sown sweet peas into your favourite J Arthur Bower’s or New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost. Pinch out the growing tip of the young plants to encourage sideshoots.
